The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg

Is there such thing as perfection when hard boiling eggs?  Why, yes, there is and I've done major research and testing to let you in on the secret that has finally made me, literally, jump for joy!

You will soon find out it doesn't take much for me to get elated at the simplest of things...I guess the older you get, the more you learn to find pleasure on the little things.  For me, one of those simple pleasures is perfectly cooked food.

Eggs are a big favorite in Mi Hogar and I couldn't stand it when I'd end up with about half an egg after most of it would come off with the shell while peeling it...seriously, it irritated me to no end!

But, VOILA!, here's a method I've found (thank you Pinterest) and I'm now sharing with you:

THE PERFECT HARD-BOILED EGG!

It's incredibly simple, really, but I'll share some pics for those of you who, like me, need visuals:

Take whatever number of eggs you'll be cooking out of your refrigerator and set them aside. Fill your pot with water almost to the top.  Set on high to boil.

While the water is heating up, grab a push pin and poke a hole on the rounder end of each egg.  I know it sounds daunting, but trust me...it's no big deal!  You'll want to keep this push pin separate from all the others...clean it after each use and use it exclusively for your hard-boiled eggs.

Once the water is boiling, place each egg in the pot with a slotted spoon so you don't drop and break it.

You'll see bubbles coming out of the little hole...it's supposed to do that, don't worry!  Let the water come back to a roiling boil.  Once the water is on full boil again, set your timer: 10 minutes for a nicely set yolk; about 8 minutes for a soft yolk.

Once the timer goes off, dump the boiling water and run VERY cold water over the eggs.  Let them sit in the cold water for a few minutes, until they're cool to handle, and start peeling.  Crack the shell softly on your counter...it will separate from the egg so easily!

See?  No chunks missing...a PERFECT, HARD-BOILED EGG!

Honestly, I haven't tried the soft boiled yolk because I'm not a fan of it, but 10 minutes is the perfect time for a beautiful yellow yolk...no ugly gray ring around it!

So there you have it...now go on, try it on your own and let me know what you think!

BTW...have you entered my giveaway yet?  Don't forget to enter...contest ends May 5th.
